Trouble with the Curve - LetterboxD Review

Original Review Link

As a big baseball fan and a huge Braves fan, I was really really looking forward to watching this. Boasting a superb cast including the ever lovable and dependable Amy Adams alongside Clint Eastwood, Timberlake, John Goodman and Matthew Lillard, things were looking good... and for the most part, this is a well crafted, well acted film. The problem is that the film is probably (at least) 15 minutes too long and at times, remarkably slow paced.

This is not so much a story about baseball... its a story about people around baseball. For non fans of the sport though, there isn't much to get excited about. The drama still centres around Eastwood's ageing scout looking out to find the "next big thing" in time for that years draft. Its no Field of Dreams (for the fantasy enthusiasts), its no Bull Durham (for the purists), its no For the Love of the Game (for those who just can't get enough of Kevin Costner wearing a baseball glove and sliding in to first!).

This isn't a bad film. I just hoped there would be a little more baseball to it.

I gave this film 3 stars out of 5!
